The Aravalli Parvats in India, the oldest mountains in the world of over 2.5 billion years, are being threatened greatly in December 2025. They were defined differently in a Supreme Court decision which led to mass protests in Haryana, Rajasthan and Delhi. Desert sands, clean air, and water that provide these hills to millions of people have people afraid that mining will be able to destroy them.
What the Court Ruling Means
A high in a plain terrain should be at least 100 meters on November 20, 2025, the Supreme Court stated that an Aravalli hill must exist and a range of the hills has to be within a close distance. This excludes a lot of low hills which were secure previously. The mining can now commence in such localities as Nuh and Gurugram, Haryana and Alwar, Rajasthan. The court halted new mines and allowed the old ones to proceed until a new plan is developed.
Why the Aravallis Matter So Much
The hills prevent the Thar Desert winds and replenish the underground water in Delhi and neighboring cities as well as synod to animals such as leopards and birds. Now protests are all round. At Gurugram, people had gathered in the residence of the Minister, Rao Narbir Singh chanting Aravali Bachao, Desh Bachao. Wars with miners were fought in village gatherings organized by Rajasthan tribes in Udaipur. In X, trending, has millions of people changing profile photos, with the hashtag SaveAravalli. In Nuh, letters were presented to the president by groups. Protests in Jaipur and Delhi require immediate measures.
What Should Happen and What Should Not
States should survey all hills expeditiously and fence everywhere and not only tall ones. Turn Aravalli into environment-sensitive zone where no mining shall be done. Demand tough inspection of all mines and enforce unlawful ones. What must not take place: No fresh mines devoid of complete green searching. There are no letting mafias to destroy more hills in exchange of money. Cities have no disregarding of water and air dangers. It can be rescued by people power, gather protests and demand action to leaders.
